The Pain, oh the Pain

Right now there are a lot of things that I should be writing about. I fancy myself a man who has opinions and comments on politics and pop culture. Lord knows, there are plenty of things going on in both arenas right now to make fun of and comment on. I am sure I will eventually have plenty to say, but right now I cannot stop thinking about the throbbing pain in my tooth right now.
Life is like that and people are like that, aren’t t hey? No matter what would happen right now, if a meteor were to strike the house right next door to the one I am in, I would be concerned, but mostly I would still be worried about the throbbing pain in my mouth. People, and by that I mean humans, just get blinded by whatever is happening to them that causes discomfort.
If, right now, a man were to show up at my door with a wheel barrow full of money and a contract to write books for his publishing company, I would be happy. I would be very excited, but as the guy was talking and as I grabbed the pen to sign the paperwork, I would still be wondering about the throbbing pain in my tooth.
When pain comes, it tends to overwhelm everything else. Sure, there are great stories of men who overcome their terrible pain and do great things. There are plenty of stories of athletes who push past the pain and do remarkable things. I live in a city where Michael Jordan had one of the greatest performances of his life while playing with a severe case of the flu. I am not one of those people.
Right now, I am writing this article, and my tongue keeps prodding the tooth that seems to be origin of the pain. My fingers are typing and my brain is working out what to type next, but the pain is right there, not far from my mind and just waiting to take over. I took some of that oral stuff that is supposed to numb toothaches, so things aren’t too bad at the moment, but I can still sense it. It’s right there.
The world is a crazy place right now. There are crazy things happening on TV. There are disasters. There are insane things happening politically. Right now, though, all of that can wait. Right now, I just need to get through Sunday so I can call the dentist tomorrow.
Don’t worry, though, the world will still be crazy and worth commenting on once this dental crisis passes.
