Spell it out for me. Actually, don't.

September 18th 2008 14:56
Tomorrow we'll work on shapes and colors.

But for today, SPELLING! YAY!

I am blown away on a daily basis (I don't weigh much, wind is a hazard) by the complete and utter lack of spelling know-how on the intarwebz. Now, I'm not going to touch on text-speak today, we'll save that for another rant. I'm not even talking about words like mnemonic and antitotalitarianism. Today, I'm talking about the fact that Americans simply do not know how to spell regular every day words. Whatever happened to Spelling Bees? Whatever happened to the American education system? Oh that's right, it's in the crapper, swirling on down the pipes with all of the other shit that politicians deem "unimportant." Like the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

I will provide a multitude of examples of words that for one reason or another irk the hell out of me when people repeatedly misspell them.

"this is rediculous. He threw himself on a grenade to save his fellow soilders and this is how he is repaid."

With a name like btrflikisez, why am I surprised at this? And please take note that the word Soldiers is a word she sees every single day in her message board life as the forum this comes from is a military support forum.

Speaking of misspelling a word you see every day, how about these two usernames? SolidersAngel and solidersdoll. Now, you might be thinking it was a quick goof and they didn't mean to misspell it. I thought that as well, so I took a look at their profiles and both have logged on numerous times. Meaning they had to spell it that way every time they logged on. Genius!

And let me take a minute to say that when people misspell "ridiculous" as "rediculous," I want to strangle them. It is also not a one time occurrence. It happens daily, spelled by different people. They actually believe that is how it's spelt.

Moving on.

"the contractors for hosuing came out yetserday Im like yes they are going to fix it right? WRONG they said its a siding problem not a roof problem they are telling housing to fix it. THEY ARE F*CKING CLOSED TODAY. WHAT THE F*CKING SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!These motherf*ckers have known since JUNE my roof was leaking. They knew this storm is comming through and have done nothing but push it off on someone the f*ck else. Im beyond livid I dont even think there is another word to describe the level of pissed I am right now. Someone on monday morning will be getting the ass chewing of a life time they will not be able to mentally sit for weeks because I am about done with this bullsh*t. "

This chick never disappoints. I can always count on at least three misspells in one post. What kills me is that she is one of those infamous posters that will spell a word three separate incorrect ways in one post. It's mind bottling. Some more gems from this girl's jewelry box: genious (irony!), summat (ok Hagrid), desereves, and corprate. At least she spelled discrepency correctly.

Off topic, but that was posted around 4 pm on the Friday before Labor Day weekend. She's surprised that housing isn't around at 4 pm on a Friday before a three day weekend for the military? Duhr.

"I was wondering how everyone diciplined there children? What do you think is approprite and was is not? I thank everyone for giving me there opions thanks so much!"

"Thank you all so much for all your imput.. I appretiate it thanks so much."

Please excuse me while I pick up the fragments from my exploded head. OH! I remember this chick. She's the one who spells it "Iam" every time she is saying "I am". WTF. She's also another perpetrator of the double m's in comming. One m. ONE M.

I should be ashamed for picking on the girl. But... I'm not. It's why I blog it, so I don't SAY it on the boards.

A friend of mine has a quote in his email signature block that is quite appropriate here: "Its a waist of time to corect peoples gramar and speling. Your simply not going to brake there bad habits irregardless of how you feal."

You have no idea how difficult it is not to go back and edit all of those mistakes... The pain is unbearable and so I will end this blogrant here. Thanks.

You are sooooooooo right: "It's mind bottling!"
I wish there were a way to pre-view a post before having to endure that stuff.
I like to visit mom blogs, but it's hard to take 'HOME- SCHOOLING MOMS' seriously when they don't know the difference between there, they're, and their.
How will they TEACH their children if they can't understand the difference? I can only hope and pray these irritants aren't perpetuated.
I honestly think laziness more than ignorance, is the culprit- after all, it's so easy to think faster than we can type, and going back for editing or correcting TAKES EFFORT.
Anyway, I understand this rant, and I'm sorry we have to share that experience, but it's good to know that there are still some young ladies out there who care.
