Love and sex

The people in the United States, for the most part, are very hung up about sex and love. Other countries, even those in Europe and other countries that are not some primitive culture, have much more advanced, evolved and understandable attitudes about sex. For some reason, they seem to understand that sex is natural, beautiful, fun, and nothing that everyone needs to get hung up on.
Of course, the United States was founded by the religious cast-offs of England, for example, which kind of helps understand the roots of the idiocy you see involved in attitudes about sex. There have never been a larger collection of uptight nutjobs than the Puritans who arrived here and immediately tried to murder as many American Indians as possible. OK, OK, that didn’t really happen, exactly, but as Bobcat Goldthwait once said, “America, the greatest country anyone ever stole.”
It seems that most people’s attitudes about sex come from their religious beliefs. Look, I was raised Christian and still count myself among the Christians. I believe in God and I believe in Jesus Christ and all of that. What I do not believe, however, is that God is some vengeful, tyrannical, horrible entity that seeks only to punish his creation. To me it makes no sense that God would make man in all of his seemingly infinite incarnations and beliefs and then condemn most of those people to this fiery, burning, horrible torture place called Hell for all eternity. Why would he do this? According to the doctrines I have been taught because you were a non-Christian in your beliefs or because you fall in love with the wrong people.
I have a problem believing God cares who you are sleeping with. If he does, well, then it is between God and the person doing the sleeping. What it has to do with you and your relationships just doesn’t make any sense to me. You see, what you do in your bedroom, however, weird it may be, doesn’t affect me at all. As long as what you do is consensual, does not involve harming anyone and is legal, who am I to care? By “harm” I mean that laws protecting minors make perfect sense. I also do not think people should involve animals because animals do not have the thinking capacity to agree to such a thing. Humans, however, can agree on what they want or do not want to do in their own bedroom and they should be allowed to do it.
I also believe that those who are homosexuals should have all of the rights and benefits afforded anyone else in any other relationship. Therefore, they should be allowed to marry and, thus, have all of the benefits that a married couple has. Why that should “cheapen” or harm anyone else’s marriage, I have no idea. I still firmly believe that if you are married and somehow your own marriage is affected by what two other people do, then you have serious issues and you need to seek professional help. You may be suppressing some things you might just want to let out.
I was once asked if I felt, then, that it would be OK if someone wanted to marry more than one person or perhaps a group of people wanted to get married. I have to say that this would not bother me in the least. As long as I am not being asked to participate, or forced to participate, then it’s entirely up to the adults who enter into such an arrangement. For example, if a bisexual woman wanted to have both a wife and a husband, I say, why not? As long as it doesn’t do anything to your marriage directly, who cares?
You can keep your morals to yourself. You can raise your kids with your morality. However, you should not let your morality judge other people and their relationships. Leave people alone to do what they want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone or infringe on anyone else’s rights.
Let God worry about the rest of it. Don’t worry, he’s big enough and smart enough to handle it without you.
