There is no doubt in any one's mind that Ian Thorpe was one of Australia's best swimmers to ever compete for Australia.
He was a value to the Australian sport and will be remembered for his unmatched skill in the water. He left his mark on the world of swimming, with numerous medals from the Olympics and flawless demonstration's of his abilities, such as his world records that remain until this day.
As usual, the media has blown the whole situation out of proportion and flooded the Australian air waves with reports of his retirement. It's rather annoying when the highlight of every news program is the same story and continues for weeks on end with nothing but old news.
Rumor has it that he will go on to start a career in Hollywood films, acting and appearing in blockbuster movies. If there is truth in the rumor, and he does decide to take on acting, I for one will be deeply disappointed. Great actors come and go every year, but only once in a while, you find such a talent in sport.
